About this Morse Code
SOS (··· ——— ···) is the international distress signal in Morse code. Despite popular belief, SOS does not stand for "Save Our Ship" or "Save Our Souls" — it was chosen purely because it is easy to transmit and recognize: three dots, three dashes, three dots with no letter spacing. It was officially adopted as the international distress signal in 1908 and is still used today by maritime and aviation services worldwide.
